Description
In 1894, Laura Ingalls Wilder, her husband Almanzo, and their young daughter Rose left their home in De Smet, South Dakota, and moved to Mansfield County, Missouri. For seven years there had been very little rain, and crop after crop had become barren and the plains had turned into heaps of dust. The Wilder family packed their belongings, said goodbye to their friends, and set off in hopes of starting a new life in Missouri. Laura wrote the travel details in a diary. These are the diary entries she wrote during her journey of 650 miles over a period of 45 days in search of a new home that would provide eternal happiness for the rest of her life.
